Junior Choral Society

In 1983, the Junior Choral Society was founded by Dr. Sandra Frey Stegman as a way to instill quality musical education, high performance standards, and a love of singing for children in the Northwest Ohio region. This non-profit organization has now been supporting children’s musical development for 40 seasons!  We are excited to continue this music tradition of excellence for our youth!

Director - Mrs. Bethany Riegsecker!  Mrs. Riegsecker has given private vocal lessons for years, and currently directs several choirs for the JOY Co-Op, based in Ridgeville.  She brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to this position, as well as organization and expertise to help our choir members grow in their knowledge and performance skills!  We are extremely thankful to have a local director that already pours into the youth in our communities, and will continue to do so through her role in JCS!  We look forward to another fantastic year!

Over its existence, the Junior Choral Society has participated in traditional concert performances, sang in dinner theater productions, appeared on Toledo television, participated in high school musicals, and collaborated in numerous conferences in Michigan and Ohio. The Junior Choral Society has performed at the University of Michigan, University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, as well as appeared with the Toledo Opera Company and Toledo Symphony Orchestra.  JCS has performed joint concerts with the Bowling Green State University Chorus, Columbus Children’s Choir, The Toledo Opera Children’s Chorus, and the Masterworks Chorale of Toledo. 

The Junior Choral Society is a select treble choir comprised of students in grades 4-9, and are selected by audition on the basis of ability, interest, and attitude. The season runs September to May. The choir holds tryouts in August, a Saturday day camp in September, and then weekly choral instruction and practices begin in October, every Monday night from 7:00-8:15 pm at Central Mennonite Church, St Rt 2, Archbold. Scheduled performances throughout the year allow students to perform musical numbers in a variety of genres and locations. The Junior Choral Society is a great way to practice and learn singing skills to perform vocally in the Northwest Ohio area!
